    Hi,
My outgoing email seams to be blocked by spamhaus.org, an organization that stops spam emailers. (I never heard of it before). Does anyone know how to stop it? Here's the error messge i get when i try to send a message

The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'XXXXXXXX@gmail.com'. Subject 'the solar system', Account: 'mail1.eircom.net', Server: 'mail1.eircom.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 5.1.1 <XXXXXXX@gmail.com> Blacklisted by Spamhaus: http://www.spamhaus.org/query/bl?ip=46.7.18.171";', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

SpamHaus don't block anything. They provide a database of bad IPs etc., and let ISPs etc., filter email based on the data.

The error message includes the IP address so you can follow the link for more information and / or contact your ISP.

I'd would assume it would be better to contact your email service provider rather than contact your ISP. If for instance you're with UPC or Vodafone and you cannot send emails and your email address is joe_duffy@eircom.net then there isn't much your ISP can do for you.

    *edit
By the way follow the instructions here to remove spamhaus.org blacklist.

That's not true. The IP that's blocked is from the ISP - not from the email provider

But is it the responsibility of the ISP if a 3rd party website has blocked the ability of someone from sending emails?
The procedure is to login to spamhaus.org and remove the IP address from the current blacklist.

Emails are sent by the SMTP server of your ISP not any server belonging to the name following the '@' in your email address.

Not if your email is hosted.

The ISP controls the IPs the user doesn't

    We're going off topic.
The ISP is not blocking the user from sending the email.
The ISP is providing internet access to the user, if the user is having problems with accessing an online service due to a 3rd party blocking their IP address then the user should be taking this issue up with the service provider, in this case their email service provider.

The email service provider does not control the user's IP address. Their ISP does.

If an IP is blacklisted in Spamhaus or any other DNS blacklist then the ISP is the entity in the best position to deal with getting the IP delisted.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one :D

I would think that a respectable provider of webservice's would be very well clued in on stuff like this.
