Prognosis of Personality disorder/Agoraphobia

    Hi Guys

I am looking for some insight/advice on the likely hood of recovery from agoraphobia with a co morbid personality disorder.

I am interested in advice from the perspective of the carer/role. My partner and I have been caring for my partner first cousin with panic disorder and agoraphobia for the last two years. He was assessed five years ago by a psychiatrist as having somatization disorder, but recently his somatization symptoms have greatly reduced and his main issue is the fear of panic attacks, which have crippled him with agoraphobia, and resulted in him not leaving the house in over a year. He had abused alcohol and drugs prior to his agoraphobia since his teen years.

My partner and I have provided a stable supportive environment for his cousin for the last year. However his lack of awareness and poor interpersonal skills have made communication with him almost impossible. He refuses to engage with any health professionals.

He is thirty years of age, and is not engaging in any therapy, and will not read the books on anxiety and agoraphobia we have given him.

My question really concerns the likely hood of him engaging in services in the future to improve his functionality. Do you think me and my partner are making his situation worse by enabling his illness. He has refused to engage in any treatment offered to him? My partner and I are thinking about leaving this situation in the next few months, because we are starting to belief it is hopeless trying to communicate with someone with zero self awareness and willingness to make even the smallest changes necessary.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
