Heating water without central heating

    Hi all,

We are having an issue heating our water in a newly rented house. We have a control panel that has separate buttons for heating the water and the central heating that can be set on a timer. After doing some trial and error tests we have found that both have to be on to heat the water. It appears that we have to heat the radiators first, before we heat our water.

This seems very uneconomical and also takes a good while to heat the water.

We have an immersion switch where the hot water tank is located. When this is switched on it does not heat the water tank. It also does not have a timer. It seems that the only way to heat the water is to turn on the central heating.

Does anyone know what the cause of this problem is, or how to fix it?

    Cheers

    What control panel is it.
Also it would not be out of the ordinary for the immersion not to have a timer.

could be a stuck motorised valve
