I am going on holidays which will include a two day photo tour ( lucky me ).
I think I am sorted for lenses and have a ND filter, old polariser if needed. but I will be taking landscapes mostly and am not sure about shutter release.
I used a cable years ago with film camera but since I got my new digital slr I usually pop the mirror up and use a self timer delay.

Am I better to get one of those ones you aim at the camera or should I get one that physically connects to it via a cable? I have aNikon 7000.

    ps , anyone got a spare ;)

I have one of the tiny infra-red jobs, they're only a few quid on ebay or a little more on adverts.ie if you need one in a hurry.

Im a little confused by this product advert. It seems to have a cable attached but is also remote?
Does it do both or does the remote respond to the unita t the end of the cable?

One unit with cable (Reciever) sits on flash shoe mount while cable connects to camera, the other one (Transmitter) you hold and use for taken pictures.

This Hahnel Combi Remote is a fantastic piece of kit - It can trigger cameras (all Nikon OR Canon leads included) or a remote flash. It sells for about €60. What's better, it is from an Irish company, Hahnel, based in Cork!

i second the hahnel combi tf .is a great unit i mainly got it for the off camera flash trigger.but shutter release works great. got mine in harvey norman for 60 euro ,
maybe a bit pricey if you only need the shutter release i think hahnel also make a wired shutter release think it was about 30 euro in harvey norman also.
One thing is that the remote uses a (cr2032) button cell battery which aren't as common but i've had mine now for about 6 months and havent had to change it yet. You can get the batteries in the 2euro shop.

and as the above post said they are an irish company which is actually the reason i got this one ,no having to mess around with paypal and delivery times.
thats my opinion any way hope it helps

Second this - I've had one for a couple of years now and it's great. Haven't even changed the battery since I got it. Fits in your pocket or on a keychain very comfortably and you don't need to attach anything to the camera.

Here's a link to a supplier just to show the product - no idea if they ship to ireland or not. I got mine off ebay for about 3 euro.

Here's a video of it working - no idea what the russian text is saying!

I was looking at one of the little ones IR that you have . Do they work for all Nikons if it is Nikon suitable? or are there separate models for different ones.

I am not sure that I want to spend 50-60 quid yet for a release as i dont use flash yet. I havent enough time left to ship the first recommendation before my holidays, so this might be my best option at short notice.
    Thanks

I got one of the radio frequency ones that work from a further distance than line of vision IR ones. I cant get it to work though. It seems to communicate with the transmitter / receiver but it doesn't trip the shutter.
Perhaps I haven't set my Nikon 7000 up properly. I have twisted the dial on the top to remote and I have reset something else on the menu , though at the minute I cant remember exactly what.
Is there something else I should be doing or not doing ?

Is it plugged into the camera? Have to ask...
