Heating control Valve

    Hi all

My upstairs heating stopped working last night. When i pushed the control unit in the kitchen the light came on but the boiler never fired up.

After a few mins reading up online I figured out I could manually open the control valve on the system. So now when I turn on downstairs heating the whole house heats ( I can live with this for the time being)

I take it there isn't a problem leaving the valve in the open position?

The valve model is a Horstmann Z2222 (which is now obsolete), a few forums are reccommending replacing the motor with a standard motor like this from screwfix. How could I be sure that its the actual motor thats gone and not a switch (that was also mentioned somewhere)

    Any ideas??

If it's a Hortsmann get your self a Sauter actuator to replace it. They are more reliable.

    thanks Johnnie

I was hoping for a quick fix, I'd need to get someone in to replace the whole unit, If the whole unit does need to be changed would it be expensive?

Is it a plumber or an electrician would do this?

I've since noticed that if I leave the valve in the open position the burner stays going, is there anyway to disengage this until I get the unit fixed/replaced?

That leaver is the manual over ride and it activates the micro switch which turns the boiler on. It will stay on once it is like that.

There is a small black button on the side of the box. If you press this you should be able to pull the box off the valve.

Put the lever back to normal. This will turn the boiler off. The only thing about this is that when the other zone are on this one will be too.

It is a quick fix until you get someone to look at it.

An RGI will be able to replace it for you.
