    I have a Nov 2004 320d.

Turbos are not as troublesome from mid 2003 on so turbo failure on the later examples is less common.

Much of the turbo failure can also be attributed to not replacing the crankcase breather at the correct interval. This can be done with a newer improved design which is only 30e from the dealer.

The one job you should carry out for piece of mind is to get the swirl flaps removed and blanking plates installed. This can be done for less than 100e.

My car now has 110K miles on it, and apart from the usual brakes and servicing I have only had to deal with a broken flexi joint on the exhaust (I fitted a stainless steel decat). So in my experience, it has been very reliable. I get between 44 - 48 MPG and service every 8k miles.

On a side note they are very easy to do an oil change on if you are any way inclined. I am able to do mine with a jack and a couple of sockets.
