Hi to everyone. Thanks for reading. I am having severe severe pain in upper first molar on my LHS. Absolute agony. On prescription painkillers but not much help. The worst thing is that this has been ongoing for the last 5-6 weeks!! I have been to see 4 different dentists, one was an endodontist! but they refuse to do anything because the x ray is clear.

I have been to a gp and I insisted going on Lyrica and then Neurotonin after as I felt maybe it was a nerve problem- no good. Then the Gp tried me on antibiotics to see if i had a sinus infection- still no change to the toothache. Tried night guard- no good. I am at my wits end. Being in this constant state of pain has really affected my wellbeing. I have depression as a result and I am taking prozac and sleeping tablets daily. never felt so low in my life.

I am going to see a facial pain specialist in cork city on wednesday. It really is my last chance. If he can't diagnose what is wrong, I really dont know what I will do.

Personally I feel it is definitely a problem with only this tooth. no other teeth have any pain/problems. I would gladly have it extracted but i CANT find a dentist that willl! Its so frustrating. It like they think I am making it up! Never had any problems like this before. I suspect there is a crack but there is nothing visible.

This is my first post in a long long time but it would be great if anyone could get back to me with the name of a dentist that is open and willing to listen to the patients problem as opposed to insisting on clinical evidence. I dont know how this could be done.. maybe by private message? I need someone in the cork city/county area.

Bottom line.. my own body is telling me that if the tooth was out- the pain would be gone. I have tried practically everything else anyway! please get in touch if you can recommend a dentist that would be willing to do this extraction for me. The pain is unbearable and it is ruining my life BUT NO dentist I have met seems to care about the daily hell my life has become.

All i want is this tooth that is at the back of my mouth, completely not visible to be removed. Please help me. Any dentists out there in Cork please get in touch!!! I am desperately seeking help. I am begging you for any help at all. If any boards readers have a recommendation for a dentist that is a bit 'old school' and perhaps willing to do tis extraction please contact.

Thank you very much, I will hope for a response. Thank you for reading this, it has helped me to put it all down. Hope to hear from someone soon. Kind regards

    Rose

Ouch sounds very sore, strange though how each dentist will not touch the tooth..But your bobdy doesnt tell you these things and lie..

I got a lot of work done recently with Anne Twomey in Carrigiline 021 437 1240..She is very good in fairness I got two root canals done with her and she was great...The only other chap perhaps would be Oscar Dermondy up in turners cross. I dont have his number but his in the yellow pages

You poor thing, sounds like you're going through such pain at the moment - when I had a sinus infection recently - my teeth/jaw/inner ear were so painful.

But I would highly recommend Brian Hickey on George's Quay - he's on (021)
4315 944, he's brill and kept me calm when I went in for root canal treatment - which was a dream compared to previous dental treatment. Ironically I had my previous root canal done by Anne Twomey and that was pure hell, so much so, I could never go back to her again. Whereas with Brian - I'm not filled with the horrors at the thought of going to a dentist anymore.

Give him a call. Best of luck and I hope the problem is sorted very soon. J

Afaik, dentists will do everything they can to avoid extracting a tooth. There's all sorts of ethical issues there, and I doubt you'll find a single one who'll do any extraction without an extremely good reason (and they're almost certain to do a root canal first). It's like asking a doctor to cut off a limb for no reason. It's awful that you're in such pain, but I really doubt you'll find a dentist who's willing to ignore all the clinical evidence (unless you go to another country with lower standards of care).

Thats very strange now..I will admit she is a bit of a hound for the money (when i asked could I pay lets say a hundred or so over a month I was told that was like she was given me a loan) but found her very good. Im very nervous to and, went to three others before I felt comfortable with her and she gave me stuff to calm me down..

Thanks a million for the replys. Some very good sugggestions there. Yes I have considered having a root canal but I haven't got the typical symptoms- no decay, no extreme sensitivity to hot and cold... the only symptom is this unbearable pain!!!

Can general dentists perform root canals on upper first molars?? I thought you would have to be referred to an endodontist? any info appreciated.

As i said, I am going to a facial pain specialist later this week in Cork City, Douglas area. I am extremely worried he will find nothing wrong with me... and what will I do then???!! There is no way I can keep living like this. I completely understand that dentists have ethical issues and codes of practice but its not like i have tried nothing!!!

I have had anti- inflammatorys, Antibiotics, Lyrica, Neurotonin, Consultation with an endodontist and a consultation with a facial pain specialist tomorrow.

Any dentists or ppl that are in contaact with dentists e.g. family, dental nurses out there that can help me out and point me in right direction???? I fully understand your concerns about extracting a tooth that 'seems' healthy but I am running out of options. I have tried everything and now I just feel completely abandoned:( Life has become unbearable: all because of 1 tooth

Worth mentioning: last september- was abroad and another molar(this time on upper right) was giving me extreme trouble. had 3 xrays- were perfect! but little swellings started appearing in my mouth near the tooth- I begged the dentist there to do something. He decided on a root canal: when he opened the tooth- oit was completely dead!!! if it happened once, surely it can happen again???

please please get in toch with me if you have any recommendations. Any dentists in the cork area that think they can help- for th love of god- PM me. Money is not the problem. I would pay milllions to have a life again instead of being in misery. This 1 tooth has destroyed me and my family.
Its like having the worst toothache imaginable every second of every day for 2 months.

Really hope to hear from ppl soon, if you know a dentsist that could help: please show him/her this message

Thank you all so much. I have great faith in other people and any help would be very much appreciated

    Kind regards
    Rose

OP, if / when you decide to have a root canal go to an endodontist, no matter which tooth it is. Based on personal experience you will be glad you did, they are quite a bit more expensive though.

ya its amazing the amount of people you talk to that have had bad experiences with dentists! There are obviously some fantastic and very friendly dentists out there, in fact the majority are excellent! but then there are some that fall pretty far below the mark.

A freind of my mothers had an absolutely desperate phobia of dentists since childhood, She was terrified. It took all the courage she had to go in and see one, she was shaking! she said to the dentist at the start that she was very nervous and she said that she didnt really lik the dentist.... to which the dentist replied 'thats ok, i don't really like patients either!' at that point she just got up and left! poor thing suffered on for weeks more before she finally found someone who could sedate her.

I myself have 1 filling in my mouth. It was a horrific experience. Had it done in cork city. She injected me with anasthestic- and I honestly thought I was having a heart ache. Couldnt breathe!! she said 'ohhh well.. I had adrenaline in the injection and it sometimes has this efect on people' I had to go sit outside in the waiting room for 10 or 15 mins. Then When it then came to filling it- the anasthestic had worn off! oh god the agony when she was drilling and the sprays of water and air!!! owww. Never ever had trouble with a local anasthectic except with that one dentist!!! God knows how much adrenaline was in the injection!

Yes, I think you are probably right: an endodontist is more expensive but a safer bet. I think there is a place out in mahon.. 750 for the whole thing. Quite expensive in my opinion but if it worked, it would be worth it. anyone have any experience with endodontists in Cork, I believe there is 4.

Once again, thanks to everyone for there input. Greatly appreciated. If yoiu have any more recommendations, post them up here or pm me.

    Sincere thanks,
    Rose

I had a similar problem when I lived in London. Dentist suspected a cracked molar but nothing showed up. Waited for months (with regular checking by the dentist) before the crack widened enough for him to put a probe in.

End result? Had to have the tooth crowned. No trouble since. Might be the same for you, painful though it is.

Dentist recommendations? I don't know where in the city you are, but my husband's dentist is O'Connell who have offices in the City and Blackpool. I go to Onslow Gardens in Parklands. Both are listed in the Yellow Pages, but you can also PM me for the numbers if you can't find them.

    Good luck!:)
