Was out at the weekend and something sparked my attention, some of the players i was with were teeing up right on the line of the tee box with their front or "plant" foot in front of the line?

Would I be correct in saying the following:

Matchplay : no penalty and opponent can ask you to replay the shot

Stokeplay: two stoke penalty and replay the shot/disqualification

Or is it not a penalty at all because the ball was behind the line?

    Rule 11-1:
A player may stand outside the teeing ground to play a ball within it.

What about in front of it, I know that applies to the left or right but not sure about in front...

The ball is all that is important. It must not be in front of the markers or be more than two club-lengths behind them (and can't be to the side obviously, must be between) but where the player stands to hit that ball isn't an issue.

I don't think so, I think your body can't be infront of the teebox, see the illustration in the below link...

The note to the rule clearly states that the player may stand outside the teeing ground. It doesn't discriminate by saying "outside, but not in front of..."
The definition of the teeing ground states the size and that a ball is outside when all of the ball lies outside the 'line'.

I know the picture shows the player behind the 'line' also but believe me, it's not necessary.

It's ok loft it's pretty clear matt was trying to level, although a poor attempt at best.

What is there to be clear/unclear about?

Step 1: Answer the following question. "Is the ball inside the teeing ground?"
Step 2: If yes, hit the ball. If no, rinse and repeat step 1.

just wanted to be clear about it, i was confused because i was understanding outside to be above or below it but not ahead of it.

it was raised this weekend and i've seen it raised in schools matchplay.

was more out of curiosity than anything, thanks
