Remapping a VW Golf 105 bhp?

    Hi

Ive have a 2006 vw golf 1.9 tdi (BXE engine 105 bhp) with a 165,000KM on it, This has been a super very realiable car for me but, its just a bit slow for overtaking large artic lorries doing 80 kmh on single carriageways etc. and would love a wee bit more extra power :D

I'm thinking of getting the car remapped, but could it destroy the cars realiability ? as Ive heard turbos and DMF can go shortly after getting this done from friends or is this only pub talk.

what increases in power could I expect ? or would I be better changing the car for a 2.0 tdi car ?

    Thanks for any views

    Joseph

it will put extra pressure on the clutch and other components at that millage if they have not been replaced before

Brother in law of mine has a '07 Passat 105. He got it mapped and says it is around 130 now. Currently has over 230 thousand miles on it.

Would VAG use stronger DMFs for their more powerful engines or do they stick with the one for each variant of the 1.9?

If it's the latter then why not get a little more welly out of the 105 considering the DMF is the same as the one in the 130 1.9?

/knows nothing about this so would like to know himself..!

The remap is completely undetectable to any assessor.

That's not the point to be fair.

    Thanks all

Yeah That's a good point, I don't want to do anything that would leave my policy void.

Think the best thing is to trade it in. After all my car was designed for economy and not performance :D

Are the 2008 year VAG's 2.0 tdi more realiable that the 2005/2006 ones ?

...I would be thinking of going to England to sourse a 170 bhp car.

Joseph - do you have any idea of the cost? Thinking about it for 08 105 hp Passat.
Worth checking the insurance implications I reckon

When I went to Chipped Ireland in June 2010 it was €350 for the remap, including the rolling road session. So you're going home with a printout of the revised performance, which will help with insurance.

I'm insured with Glennon's and they didn't charge any extra after the remap, but it may make it difficult to shop around - some insurance agents won't even know what you're talking about.

A friend with a '05 Skoda Octavia TDI 105 got remapped with Chipped Ireland to 147 bhp slightly before I got my car done - he's had no issues with it so far. I've had to replace the clutch/flywheel since, but I was gone past 240,000 km on the factory original.

Is it possible to remap Petrol engines? and is there any real gains say from a 1.4 engine?.... or are remaps only suitable for diesel engines?

Remaps are best suited to turbo engines, petrol or diesel. A standard 1.4 engine will not really see much benefit.

    Cool, thanks very much!

The common rail engines were only available in VAG cars in the UK from September 2008 onwards. You should be looking at a 58 plate or an 09 plate not an 08 plate.

As for reliability, my A3 quattro 2.0 TDI 170 blew a turbo 20 months after I bought it in Sept 08* despite being looked after well. No other issues though since then.

    *under warranty thank fook! :D

go for the remap, clutch and flywheel may give trouble but they give trouble anyway on the higher bhp (130, 150), stay away from 2.0 engine terrible engine 1.9 is fair more reliable
