Does anyone know where I could find photos, footage, or anything really, of the handover of Templemore barracks to a Commandant of the old Irish National Army by a Major Phibbs of the British army in 1921?

Edit: I would also like the same for Summerhill Barracks in Co. Tipperary, and for Kickham barracks in Co. Tipperary also.

I'm looking to do a bit of research as it was a dead relative of mine whom one of the barracks in Tipperary was handed over to in 1921, but I don't know which.

    Thanks.

    Have you looked at this?
    http://www.templemore.ie/history.htm -
Major Phibbs of the 10th Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment handed over these barracks to Commandant Sean Scott, O/C 2nd Battalion, Mid-Tipperary Brigade etc

For Kickham Barracks - I've found on Ask about Ireland that they were taken over by Commandant Dalton, commander of 5th Battalion of the 3rd Tipperary Brigade from the Yorkshire and Lancashire Regiment in February 1922.

You should post this over to Tipperary forum also, there a few local history experts over there

They might not read it here

Try local Co. Tipp papers for their archives, they may have taken photos and had a more detailed description of events than national papers.
Doubt if you'll get footage of anything other than handovers in the main cities, but you never know....Pathe have a seachable site with a lot of newsreels of Irish material uploaded.

Summerhill barracks does be in the news as the town council wanted to turn it into an office block
But there was no interest in the site as Eircom or ESB, I forget which has a substation on the site and have right of way.
And there are old officers houses at the back which are private houses now and those have right of way

The barracks have crumbled away and the roof collapsed in recent years
A shame, central site in town if they were able to renovate and preserve the barracks it would have been great, like they did in Clonmel

Just google the Nenagh Guardian, lots of old stories on the site

And contact the local historical society for your research

If anyone has pics it will be them
