I would like to extend an open invitation to readers of this forum to attend the upcoming CrisisCamp Ireland.

The event is organised by Haiti Connect and hosted by the NUI Galway’s Discipline of Information Technology.
CrisisCamps are a series of global workshops organised by members of CrisisCommons a global community of volunteers from academic, technology, crisis response organizations, government agencies, and individuals from other backgrounds who are working together to build and use ICT technology tools to improve the response to disasters and crisis situations but also to improve resiliency and preparedness prior a crisis. The event organisers hope to create awareness amongst crisis response organizations, academics, government agencies, and citizens on how (open source) software & hardware can be used to build technology tools for these types of situation.
CrisisCamp began in March 2009 as an event to connect crisis management and global development practitioners to the technology volunteer community. During the Haiti response, CrisisCamp became a global movement and added a response mechanism to the community.

Haiti Connect has been running & supporting technology based aid & rebuilding projects in Haiti since shortly after the earthquake of 2010. Through direct experience they have seen the advantages of using modern, digital technologies in these environments. With this event we intend to start an ongoing series of workshops and events based around this theme. We hope that together with the participants we can come up with innovative ideas and applications and will assist in the future development of these.
We are inviting people with backgrounds in telecommunications, database design, data mining, Interface design, Hardware hacks, coders, telemedicine, GIS & mapping but also people with backgrounds in actual disaster response, medicine, linguistics, mathematics and more.

Participation and support will allow attendees to use your skills, creativity and experience towards projects that will save lives in future crisis situations.

The event will take place in the Information Technology Building on the NUI Galway campus on February 26th from 10 am until 7 pm. Admission is free but interested parties are encouraged to register via the website: http://crisiscampireland.com/registration

Looking forward to meeting you during the event!

    Regards, Evert Bopp.
