Releasing emails to a third party

Hi i just have a quick query. Does an idividual need the consent of the other to release a transcript of emails between both to a third party? And if so, what happens if there is no consent from the other and the emails are released? Does this constitute an invasion of privacy and could damages be awared? I know it's a very general question but what is the general consensus?

The answer is that it depends on the circumstances.

Most companies might do this if, for example, a court order had been obtained, or of you had done something in the course of your employment.

As you'll have read the forum charter, you'll know that we don't do legal advice here. So, if it's a matter that requires advice, then seek professional advice elsewhere.

    Tom
