I have a couple of road bikes and am considering getting a mountain bike via this years C2W scheme.

Which of the following do you thinks better value?

    http://www.canyon.com/_en/mountainbikes/bike.html?b=2540

    http://www.canyon.com/_en/mountainbikes/bike.html?b=2555

I'm not sure the exact use - probably some trails and, perhaps, advancing on if I get more 'into' it. :D

Can you buy on that website using bike4work or any other scheme? Or is there Canyon retailer in Dublin?

    thanks

The spec on the Grand Canyon is better and a hardtail is probably the best place to start! The Nerve is a couple of kgs heavier too! However I would be a bit concerned about the DT Swiss forks on the Grand Canyon as there is nobody (as far I know) in Ireland who will service them so you would need to send them to the UK at least once a year.

You can buy from Canyon on the CTW scheme (as long as your employer is agreeable) and they are an "online only" supplier!

If your looking to buy off a retailer then your spoilt for choice around Dublin... As its your first decent MTB you'd be much wiser to buy local..

Thanks for the reply. Considering the desire not to send it to the UK annually, maybe I'd be as well going for the cheaper version: http://www.canyon.com/_en/mountainbikes/bike.html?b=2539. From reading reviews, the RockShox Reba RL isn't as high-spec but I'd imagine it'd be reasonable for a starter bike.

Then, if I get more into it, I can upgrade in the next year or two. What do you think?

Another option would be one of the Decathlon bikes.

The Reba is an excellent fork used by plenty of good racers here! Easily serviced too!

Personally I wouldn't have one of the Decathlons!

    Genuinely good advice but I'm a risk-taker :D

My first road bike was a Planet X and that worked out well. I'm hoping I'll have an equally good pay-off with a Canyon mtb.

I'm in Donegal so it'd be pretty inconvenient getting down to Dublin and there ain't as much choice up here.

In that case go for the Nerve XC, much more fun than the hardtail, and the Rockshox are a good fork...
