Rough quote for a new boiler

    Hey guys

I was hoping someone might be able to give me a ballpark figure for getting a new gas boiler installed. I currently have an Ideal boiler, but its at least 15 years old. It stopped working last night, and when I spoke to our plumber and explained the problem, he said it sounds like the gas valve is gone. He said that these parts are €170 + vat, then with any labour on top of it, its adding up.

I was thinking afterwards though, would it be more economical in the long run to get a new (A-rated?) boiler installed. Can anyone give a rough idea on price? I'll be asking my guy tomorrow anyway but would like to have an idea beforehand. FWIW, the system would need to heat just 8 rads (and a towel rail) and provide hot water. I have eletric showers, so the hot water would only be needed on its own say during the summer (not sure if that makes a difference).

I was thinking about €1500 to get this done, but is that way off (either way)?

    Cheers in advance.

there are a few factors to consider, does system need to be powerflushed?,make of boiler, pipework, fittings ,labour etc. you are probably not a million miles away but depending on everything it may go up to 2k

Around 1800 to 2000 depending on brand of boiler and it should be cleaned before the new one goes in. The Classic is a work horse though.

Jasus after the grant:eek:. I'd probably come in around that before the grant with a Viessmann.

OP here, sorry about not replying on thread, but got caught up with work this week.

Thanks for all the advice though, some good indications. Luckily though, when my plumber came out on Tuesday, it turned out that all that was wrong was the thermostat so he replaced that. €60 inc labour for that.

The model is an Ideal Classic alright, and has served us well for 12 years. In fact I'm almost 100% that thats the first part that has even needed replacing. Its been serviced a good bit though.

Anyway, plumber said that she should be good for another couple too.

PS: Cheers to the lads for pm'ing as well. :)

Three or four years ago I replaced an Ideal Classic boiler (efficiency 76.9 percent) with a condensing boiler (effy 92 percent) and tbh I didn't experience a noticable reduction in gas bills.

What did get my gas bills down, subsequently, was better controls (zones, thermostats etc).

Parts for the Classic seem to be easily available and reasonably priced, so you can probably keep 'er on the road for a bit longer.

we are putting on an extension and i was wondering how much a plumber would charge for labour only. There are 3 urinals and a cistern, 7 toilets, 5 Washbasins and an electric shower. We are providing all materials and its only cold services running to everything. I managed to do the 1st fixing myself. The pipework for everything is running down the wall from the ceiling. Just wondering what a rough est. is for labour. Thanks

    wouldnt go near it
