    Hello,

Im a newbie to both cycling and boards and was looking for some advice.

I have inherited a levante claud butler approx 1 month ago from my father. First off is this a good bike? Having only started I can do approx 15/16 miles in an hour, is this a good starting point? Lastly I have heard people recomment solid tyres, anyone have any views on these tyres?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

16mph is good stuff way to fast for me. no idea about how good the bike is would need lots more info but if your doing 16mph on it it cant be bad. stay away from solid tyres.

Welcome to the Boards Cycling forum ...

Your original post was in the Cycling Adverts sub-forum. I'm assuming you are not actually looking to buy any solid tyres from other Boardsies at this stage, but rather discuss their merits (or otherwise;)). Hence I thought you may get more discussion on this topic, and the other question you raised, in the main cycling forum - I therefore transferred it from there to here

When you say solid tyres do you mean solid as in solid rubber with no air inside? Because I'm not even sure you can get them for bicycles and even if you can that sounds like a truly awful idea.

You can get tyres with varying degrees of puncture protection. Touring and City tyres generally have the best puncture protection but they are a bit rougher than a faster tyre. To give you an idea of all the choices have a look here. Not all those will be suitable though.

The Levante is a flat bar racer yes?, so you probably want a 700x28C tyre. 700 is the diameter. 28 is the width. You could go for something narrower like a 25 or wider 32, maybe.

If you are having problems with punctures invest in a good track pump. Preferably an aluminium one and not a plastic one. Plastic will be cheaper but will not last as long.

And also regularly check your tyres for bits of glass and dig any embedded shards out carefully with a pointy instrument.
