    Hi

When I try to Overwrite an old file with a file of the exact same name I am not prompted to overwrite it. Instead a copy of the file is created e.g.
Copy of filename. I usually just alter the old file so that there is no problem when copying the file over. I do this quite regularly at work so it is just something that i find very annoying.

I have looked to change setting and have looked for solutions on the internet but have had no luck

Any Idea's would be greatly received

    Regards

    What version of Windows?

How are creating this copy/overwrite? From a particular application or through copy/paste in Windows Explorer?

    Hi

    Thanks for the reply

I am using Windows XP Professional SP3. I am copying the file from one folder and pasting it into another folder. The folder that i am pasting into already has the exact same file that sometimes needs to be overwritten for various reasons.

Were the files you are trying to replace created with the same user account?

Have you tried and replacements for Windows Explorer to see if its a registry setting?

    Hi

I am not sure if the files were created using the same user accounts. The files i access are stored on a server and are copied to a user machine. My work colleagues carry out this task and have no problems with the files been overwritten. I think it may be a setting in files and folders that may need to be altered to resolve the problem.

I just have not come accross it yet.
