Looks good. Based on past discussions I assume it's too much to hope for that this would become standard issue, eh?

I think that looks fierce professional. Utility trousers, Polo shirt, baseball cap and a utility vest. Whats wrong with it for everyday policing?

I think he still looks approachable and friendly.

It's way too sensible and useful. I can't see them bringing it in.

If they ever bring in those shirts that look well without the tie and those utility trousers I'd be happy as larry.

Not too bothered about the belts at the minute. Just wish they'd have something on the jackets to stop them from moving about so much.

Well let's face it, the original boots we were fitted for a few years ago were deemed too 'paramilitary', so I reckon there's feck all hope of seeing kit like that until at least 2152  :p

Cost is the issue, very pricey vest they are brilliant though and should be general issue

Permission to ask a question ?

Does the vest in the photo provide protection against stabbing or is it really just a waistcoat with pockets and lots of things to hang gear off

It's a simple MOLLE style police vest. The stab vest would be worn separately underneath.

Thought that too, doesn't look like a panel carrier, more like a fishermans waistcoat kind of thing... Easy to get proper police carriers that look the part and not too paramilitary... It'd be the right job

Seriously, how expensive can they be that the force can't buy 'em? The average MOLLE LBV is about $50US, some of the more expensive top out at $140. We often buy the things ourselves if we're not a fan of the FLC we get for free. FLC is about $60 and is tough enough to fight wars in.

Agreed! It still gives off a professional image and i don't think there is anything military about it.. Very approachable!

Only if you promise to bring him for walks and feed him.

    The dog, right?

I think it looks a bit sloppy to be honest. Like it was just randomly thrown on him. If the jacket was also black it'd look a lot better in my opinion.

That said, practical use would obviously far outweigh appearance.

We only got the vests because they got em half price after the met cancelled their order and went for the good front entry ones they have now, blue carriers were cheap enough to supply too... Buying our own gear isn't allowed and frowned upon at best,

Always taught that was only a rumour bout the mules stabbers!?! say it isn't so...

I seem to recall this term being used by Micheal McDowell SC,in his capacity as Minister for Justice when he rhetorically asked some media people how Ireland wanted it's policing to develop.

Probably one of the most telling example of Politicians being far more concerned with how things look, rather than how things actually are ! :(

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

Personally I think the best option would be Combats, Polo Shirts and a vest like this which combines the stab vest with a high viz cover and utility pockets

Looks professional and you could wear it instead of those ill-fitting High Viz jackets

The high viz jacket is the worst part of an ill fitting, uncomfortable, outdated uniform.

It's looks ridiculous. My 16" shirt could fit a pillow in it with the bottom of the shirt pocket almost as low as my navel.

I'd gladly give up my uniform and boot allowance for some decent kit ffs.

Now that I think of it does anyone here get any of their uniform altered for size?

May have posted this before & showing my age again :p but in days of yore you were supplied with a bale of material annually and you went to a local tailor & had a bespoke uniform made.

It fitted perfectly, the material, while heavy, was durable and everyone had a made to measure uniform that looked smart.

Now we have a 'one size fits many' of rubbish quality that is totally impractical.

    Ah well.... 33 months & counting :D

I also have some shirts that fit me comfortably and i can get my finger in the neck when closed. Others I can hardly close and find it hard to breath! All the same size apparently. Stupid
