What is the process for converting from an American PPL to the European/Irish JAR/JAA one?

    There is a summary here:

Can I ask why you wish to do this? I was thinking I would do so too but talking to a few people and contacting the IAA, I didn't really see the benefit.

Actually just checking my notes and I see that link related to the UK system. According to the IAA it's slightly different:
You must hold at least a Class 2 medical to be able to use your FAA licence here in Ireland. In relating to obtaining a JAR PPL you must first join a registered flight school. If you have more than 100 hours you need only sit 2 written exams (Human Performance & Air Law) also successfully complete a PPL flight test and also pass a Class 2 Irish medical. If you have less than 100 hours you must sit all 4 of the PPL exams, plus flight test and medical. In Ireland the R/T rating is combined into your PPL flight test.

I could be in the US for a number of months so I was thinking about completing my PPL there. But the transfer doesn't seem as simple as I thought it would be. ie. Still having to complete exams and flight test and preferably have 100 hours + etc.

You do know that you will need a visa to receive flight training towards a certificate in the US, do you?...unless you are a US citizen.
