    Hi all,

probably an incredibly obvious question so please be gentle with me...

    1)
Main TV - FULL HD, use it with old Sky box for FTA channels etc. RTE and TG4 are quite fuzzy on it, have to use different channel on TV for them (we dont have TV3, need a second ariel for that in our area!).

In my parents house, they have automatically picked up RTE HD, great picture and added features (on screen menu, programme selector etc etc) They dont have Saorview box, Skybox or anything...

Any ideas on how we can receive RTE in HD?
Do we have to be subscribers to SKY to receive BBC / ITV etc in HD?

    2)
2nd tv in the bedroom, picks up RTE TG4 only.
Would it be worthwhile getting a 2nd Skybox for here, hooked up to FTA or would you recommend a 'magic eye' set up?

    3) Do you have to be a Sky subscriber to be able to use the features on Sky+ box (e.g record programmes etc)

I know you guys are well versed in these areas so your opinions and directions are appreciated!
    Many thanks ;)

Seems your parents have a saorview compatible tv.If your tv isn't saorview compatible then you need a saorview box.Best to look in the terrestrial forum for more info as this is the satellite forum.RTE2HD is available via saorview only.

ITVhd & BBChd are fta on satellite but you need a hd receiver to view them,a standard Skybox can only pick up standard definition channels but the trade off is that you get the UK epg on it.
Don't bother with a magic eye as you have to watch the same channel as the main tv,a Skybox can be picked up for peanuts these days, check adverts.ie.

Thanks amill Zerks - will check the TV tonight and google specs. Spent a fair amount on it after a bit od research 2 / 3 years ago so I'm really hoping its Saorview compatible.

Sounds like SkyHD boz is the way to go for the sitting room so, we can move the one thats there down to the bedroom.

Many thanks - it's whole other world keeping up with all this!

Only problem with using a SkyHD box for fta is the EPG is stuck as the Irish one, virtually all the most popular FTA channels have to be added and watched through 'other channels' which is a pain in the arse.

Possibly forking out for a Freesat HD box is a solution unless you are willing to subscribe to Sky.

depending on what type of setup you have it may be worth getting a digidome aerial and put it through a SPC4 Combiner with your sky box. u might also need a splitter to send all the combined signals to each room. this way you will get all the Soarview channels and you can also get your sky box channels in a second room also. magic eye will change sky channels also.

Not all transmitters that currently carry analogue RTÉ/TG4 will be upgraded for Saorview, your aerial may be pointing at one of these.

Check here for the Saorview transmitter recommended for your area - http://www.saorview.ie/make-the-switch/coverage-checker/coverage-map/

    This might solve your problem:
    http://www.tvlink.co.uk/spc4.htm

    and:
    http://www.tvlink.co.uk/downloads/185005765_spc4.pdf

But I have not used it.

    There is a catch
"The user simply allocates the remote control in each room to one of the four set-top boxes connected. Thereafter, that remote control will operate only that set-top box allocated to it. The only constraint is that once a remote control has been programed to operate with one of the set-top boxes, it will not operate any of the other set-top boxes within the system."

So for each TV you need to decide which box it will use.

It may be able to use all you old Sky eye's but I am not sure. The existing wiring will need to match the diagram shown, so different wiring may be needed.

Hi someone might be able to help me here, we have sky installed in the house and have the red-eye gismo to enable us to view the same channel in other rooms. He have been given a Sky HD (recordable) box which works fine on the main TV but will not work through the red eye in the other rooms. We arlready have the splitter box installed in the attic bringing the signal to 4 rooms in total but once we hook up the HD box we only have the man TV working.

If anyone has any ideas it would be appreciated.
