    Hi all
I am downloading videos that I took on this camera. On the camera when I play them there is sound but when I open them on my laptop they play but with no sound. I have gone in to all the settings I can find on both the camera and laptop and cannot solve it! They open automatically in Real Player but even when I open in Windows Media Player they still play with no sound!
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

Forget real and windows media players. They don't really have sufficient codec support for other formats.

Download and install VLC, see if it has sound in that (it should!).

    Will try that.
If I post the video on facebook or whatever will people be able to open it and hear the sound?

Make sure you hear it when playing through vlc first.

Also, sorry to make this point but it's happened to me before, you don't have the machine or players on mute do you?

So is the video fine in the other players?

The only two things I'd suggest is getting the k-lite codec pack and/or converting the video to a different type (eg from mpg to avi you can do that in vlc. Click media - convert/stream).

Anyways try the codec pack first.

Yeah the visual is fine in the other players!
I know I asked this already but if I put this on facebook will people only be able to open it (and see and hear it) if they have vlc?
Thanks very much for your help

They wouldn't need vlc. When you upload it to the likes of fb or youtube it's converted to flash video (in chrome flash is embedded in the browser with the likes of IE and Firefox they'd need flash installed and sure everyone at this stage has it!).

You could try it out and test it. You can always delete the vid and troubleshoot afterwards.

The codec pack thing wouldn't work for me - wouldn't download for some reason, will try it again later.

I meant uploading the vid. If you wanted to go ahead and upload it first and then if it didn't work try the codec pack (or convert it).
