Ok, after watching the Northern Trust Open last night, these are the reasons I hate Keegan Bradley.

    1. He spits everywhere, all the time.
    2. His total lack of any decision making
    3. The pirate eye he gives before putting
    4. His belly putter
    5. The little dance and totally ridiculous pre shot routine he has
    6. He supports the New England Patriots
    7. He is so slow its ridiculous. They were hitting their third shots on the par 5 17th when Haas made the par save on 18. a hole and a half behind.

I'll add to this list, but this is just the beginning.

    His name is reversible

Ì neither like nor dislike the man but his pirate eye does make me laugh.

It reminds me of Jurassic Park and the way the dinosaurs tilt their heads to try and make sense of what the humans are doing.

I find it funny now, but after a few more times it could do my head in.

I guess he would say, I'm a major winner , spit on the ground and drink a pint at the bar in 20 years time.

What do you mean - his total lack of decision making? I'm interested, have not seen much of hime - do you mean his caddy makes decisions, or he takes ages to decide?

More like he decides, picks the club, and then spends about 5 min flailing around and hacking the ground before he finally lets fly.

I wouldn't mind only he falls into his setup position all dangly and lets fly straight away. I reckon it's all in the head with him, working up the courage to pull the trigger.

I don't mind it to be honest because I get a great laugh out of watching him, and more often than not he hits a brilliant shot after the ordeal.

Someone describing his pre-shot on another forum :pac:
    1) Spit, spit, spit, walk up to ball, bounce club right of ball, walk back
    2) Spit, spit, spit, look dead serious at target, walk up to ball, take three practice swings next to ball to get a feel of the grass, walk back behind ball
    3) Spit, spit, spit, look like you just consumed ten cups of coffee, pretend to walk back to ball and then walk back
    4) Spit, spit, and the last spit come drooling out of the mouth with some of the spit just barely making it out of the mouth (gross), walk up to ball and swing

He certainly has his idiosyncracies but if I had a pre-shot routine enabled me to contend and win then I'd stick with it :D

If he's not being put on the clock then he can take his time.

Ya, I dont mind him either.

The spitting he needs to address and the slow play is always a nuisance, but he is very interesting to watch.
He has a bit of flare about him which always makes for good TV.
I don’t know how long his back will last playing like that but he can really hit a golf ball..

I know Bill Hass won last night and good on him, but for me he falls into the Robert Allenby, David Toms, Stewart Appleby, Stewart Cink kind of group, which is no one really cares whether they win or not…

His pre shot routine is a circus act.

He needs to play more golf with Jason Day and JB Holmes and they can take turns freaking each other out doing their ridiculous hokey cokey.

He is fairly annoying alright but at least his caddy dosent have to line him up! Most annoying thing a golfer can do for me.

I'd also say he seems to have some bottle which seems to be lacking in some of the guys on the tour...look at some of the putts from when he won the PGA & again last night holing that putt after Phil had holed his on 18 was impressive (even if he is cheating with his long putter).

When he was on 13 (I think) I actually said out loud "Will you hit the f**king thing". Agree though about making the putt on 18 after lefty, it showed bottled, but he showed plenty of that in the PGA last year aswell. Hopefully he will get it out out his game like Sergio did with re-gripping the club.

And on the longer putter  I wish they banned them for the pros but I cant see it happening at this stage

Not having a go, but I disagree with this completely.

Slow play is probably the biggest problem in the game right now and pros have a duty to set an example. I don't think they should be free to take as long as they want up to just short of the point of being put on the clock.
I think it was JB Holmes who said a few years ago something along the lines of "I'm playing for a million dollars, I'll take as long as I want" - the new breed of Keegan Bradley, Webb Simpson etc seem to have adopted this attitude big time and it doesn't make for good TV.

If the PGA tour took a leaf out of the LPGA Tour's book and dished out a few stroke penalties it would end it pretty quickly IMO.

He needs to cut out the spitting which is a habit.

His pre-shot routine is far too long. His spitting and routine appears almost like a "nervous twitch" - he feels he needs to do it. However he must be doing things right so it's going to be hard for him to change.

I'm not sure what the "complaint" about the belly putter is about.

Does this happen often on LPGA?

Did you see the celebration by Bill Hass when he won? Neither did I, maybe half a smile at most.....

you have to admire Bradley because he has some bottle when the chips are down but how does anyone need to spit that much?

I'm sure if his 45 footer for birdie was for the win the celebration would have been a lot more robust, but the reality is he was only confirmed the winner when his two playing partners then missed their birdie efforts, so it's a different emotion (I'm guessing)

Hes nuts but it made for great tv last night, how these guys get away with spiting with millions of people watching them is not on, They should be fined

Reminds me of a baseball player at bat or a young Sergio with all the itches scratches and resets ........ Minus a major of course

100% agree. At the next regular season tournament they should put him out first with Day and Ben Crane and let them drive each other nuts. Put a fast 3-ball out behind them!

I don't think it would annoy them tbh. I'm sure they are all aware they are slow, but one "benefit" of their routines is that once they start/pull the trigger etc they can block everything out and only focus on the shot at hand - painfully slow and all as this process is, it's one we could all learn from, (but execute a version of in a much much quicker fashion)

    That's a good point.

I disagree. Remember the time Sabbatini walked ahead of Crane back in 2005. Crowd booed him at the time but surely this has crossed the mind of the majority of pros playing with one of these guys over the years.
Tour officials put the Sabbatini/Crane group on the clock Sunday at the Booz Allen Classic, but both players had caught up by the 17th hole and were off the clock. When Sabbatini hit his approach into the water, he walked behind the green and prepared to make his drop before Ben Crane could hit his approach shot. Sabbatini was nearly directly behind the flag, standing there, waiting for Crane to hit his shot. As soon as Crane's ball stopped moving, Sabbatini dropped, played his chip, walked onto the green, marked his ball, and then put his ball down and putted out. He then walked to the 18th tee before Crane finished out. He was booed, and booed again as he approached the 18th green (where Crane birdied from 50 feet away and Sabbatini managed to two-putt).

Don't know how often, but it happened at least once last year IIRC.
I'd say it doesn't need to happen to often, they'll get the message pretty quickly.

Thats the big difference between players like Haas, Cink and Allenby where a 30ft putt holed only warrants a nudge of the cap unlike a Garcia or Mickelson where there would be fist pump followed by a cart wheel.
For me i would rather support golfers who aren't afraid to show a bit of passion every once in a while.

I can put up with the pre-shot routine, but the spitting has got to stop.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,543 ✭✭✭JerryHandbag

From the man in question on Twitter:

    "I apologize for my spitting It's a reflex,I don’t even know I’m doing it. It's a longtime habit I’ve got 2 try 2 conquer"

I don't recall him doing any spitting or loco pre shot routines when the won the USPGA. Strange.

Spitting yes, the part of the question that related to slow play he ignored. 7/10!
