How can I send emails using Meteor BB?

I just moved house and so went from Eircom fixed line BB to a Meteor dongle. Now my email accounts in Outlook fail when sending due to no relaying allowed. I used to have thses accounts use mail1.eircom.net as my smtp server which was fine when I connected to Eircom. But now I connect to Meteor and as far as I can tell, the buggers have no smtp server.

Can anyone tell me how to solve this? I'd prefer to continue using Outlook if I can so webmail is not really an option.

All ISPs will lock down their SMTP server, in order to avoid spammers and being black listed by other relays.

Meteor don't have an SMTP server, as far as I know, so you won't be sending any mail through that connection. You'd need to have your own server, or find an open one.

Damn! I wouldn't have expected that. I guess if they haven't got an smtp server in place for their customers at this stage, they're not going to put one in. Would it be an idea to give the dongle back and go with a different company?

Not really, Its my sole BB solution at home. I'm getting good reception and delighted with no contract so I'd like to remain as I am.

I contacted Blacknight and asked them If I were to purchase a hosting package from them, could I use relaying? Answer, No!

So, how would you go about hosting your own server? Would it be expensive? Or could I rent hosting and have my current incoming emails all forward to my new email address @ myhost? Then I could use my new email address @ myhost to reply to them.

I have a Vodafone broadband USB device and find that I cannot send emails using Outlook Express and Mozilla Thunderbird (no problems downloading incoming mails). After following up the error code I was getting , it turned out that the problem had something to do with the IP address of the USB device being blocked by an outfit called spamhous.org. I don't pretend to understand the technicalities but essentially there doesn't seem to be anything I can do about it.

My solution was to use the web version of my email provider eircom.net. This does not seem to have any problems sending emails.
