    Hi all,

After building my new pc and installing win 7 64 bit, i've noticed that it takes forever and a day to install anything, eg 40 mins for itunes, 30 mins for steam...it downloads ok its just the installing that takes for ever, any thoughts would be appreciated.

install the latest chipset drivers and Intel Rapid Storage drivers from intel's website, also check that crucial ssd drive has the latest firmware

Have you checked your BIOS to see that AHCI is enabled and not native IDE?

It's also recommended that when installing the OS to an SSD that you have all other drives disconnected during the the initial OS install but I think that might only apply if one of the other drives has an earlier OS like Vista or 7 (something to do with Vista & 7 only storing the boot information on one drive) Not applicable in your case I'd imagine.

id agree with disconnecting the mechanical drives for the system setup process, just in case.

Have you considered dumping windows for something else? Might be worth at least taking Kubuntu linux for a test drive (at least you can verify if the problem is your software or hardware. It will install in about 15 mins, you can install windows over it later but at least it might point you in the right direction. You can download it quickly at www.kubuntu.org

Issue resolved, I did a full format on the new drive and updated various drivers and that seems to have sorted it.
