Hello, I hope this is in the right place to ask such a question.

What would you expect fuel consumption for a Renault Scenic 1.4 2002 to be?

Not a great deal of motorway driving. Maybe once a fortnight.

    What do you think?

Had one before and got on average about 37 mpg from it.

Thank shedweller, i have set thingy at zero but a full tank will take a while before i can work it out properly.
I hope mine does a bit more than that!!
    Thanks again.:)

Not likely to get 37 mpg tbh, certainly not going to get much more.

My 2007 one gives me about 9.5L/100km. That's 20-odd mpg.

But I do a lot of minor road driving, not a lot of motorway/dual carriageway.

    9.5 l per 100 km is 30 mpg, not '20 odd'!

The OP is unlikely to get more than about 35 mpg in a car like a Scenic.

    You're right, I used the wrong calculation...d'oh.

@seamus is yours the 7 seater Grand and if so can you recommend it? Basically is it reliable, how are electrics, EGR valves sticking any other issues barr the ones raised on Parkers/Honest John.

Im looking at different ones now for a project and haven't drove any yet.
But the ones ive shortlisted are:
Cit C4 Grand Picasso, Cit C8, Fiat Ulyesse, Lancia Phadera(basically a C8/807), Mazda 5, Mazda MPV, Mitsi Grandis---but very expensive unless I find an extraordinary bargain) Opel Zafira, Peu 807, Renault Espace & Scenic.

Ford/Seat/VW/Honda are expensive for what you get where I am eg a 2003 ford Galaxy will set me back about €10K even a Kia or Hyundai will set me back 8000 for a 2002.

So the ones Ive chosen are a mix between style and substance but realistically the Grandis is the pick of the bunch its too expensive a 2005 is €14K:eek: same goes for Cit C4 an 07 is 12K and Mazda 5 an 05 is 10K.

So that leaves me with a C8/Ulysse/Phadrea/Zafira/807 and the renault espace or scenic.

Ive done a lot of research as I've only ever drove an MPV once for a week and that was a Dodge or a Chrysler when petrol was dirt cheap so would appreciate your input.

TL;DR version... what 7-8 seater MPV would you recommend?

Mine is the 5-seater. It's not a car for you if you're big into cars. The 1.4 especially is very under-powered (I reckon it's a special model just for the Irish market).

But it's a decent car. I find it very comfortable to drive, grand for motorway cruising. My opinion is a little tainted because I got a second-hand which had been quite heavily used, so I had to spend nearly €1,000 getting it up to scratch (wear and tear) before its first NCT. The idle revs are also a little low on mine (it can cut out when the engine's cold) and when I asked a Renault garage about getting it tweaked, they told me it would be some insane sum, like €100 or something "just to plug it into the computer". So I've chosen to live with it until I find a non-Renault garage who can do the same thing for a tenner.

But if you're looking for a car with stupid amounts of room which is very comfy for driver and passengers, and a few LED displays to distract you, you can't really go wrong with a scenic.

I would buy another one, but I'd probably go for a bigger engine and get a center console (mine just has big gap between the driver and passenger seats).

Hi Kupus - I have 1 2005 Grand Scenic 1.6 petrol from new, small mileage. It is spacious, versatile & roomy etc, but we have found it expensive to run, (9ltrs per 100km on mixed driving) underpowered and it has had a litany of small problems.

Not dissing Renault, have a Ren Master van & its brill, but that car has been disappointing. Hope that helps

Thanks seamus & red, i have my eye on one at the moment, but I may look for something else unless he drops a 1000 on the price.

If buying a Scenic, make sure the timing belt has been done properly, especially if its done over 60k. I bought one, the belt had been done but the water pump was not changed and caused the belt to fail. A costly lesson. Since then the Scenic has been fine, some bizarre problems with the window electrics (never open your window when its raining), it is underpowered but as its a family car I'm not racing it. Great room in it I must say.

We have a grand scenic 2005 1.6 16V petrol that is giving average of 30mpg, we're thinking of changing for a more economical diesel due to fuel costs (another grand scenic 1.5 diesel or citroen grand picasso 1.6 diesel).
    Some quick questions...
    - Does anyone have average mpg information for a grand picasso 1.6 diesel?
    - Does anyone have advice on what year or model of Picasso to avoid??
    - For the grand picasso, which is less troublesome/more economical, manual transmission or the EGS (elecronic gearbox system)?
    Thanks,
    BG

Mine 1.4 (2000), does between 35-40. With driver only, it can do easily 40, but as soon as you put 3 in the back, and some luggage, 35 becomes a challenge.
