Tigers were two points down with the clock gone 80 and Flood refused the chance for a DG, when he got the ball dead straight in front of the posts he took it on and went into contact so Murphy stepped into the pocket and called for the ball, he converted an ugly DG to win.

He got hammered to the ground after the kick, bounced back up to see the ball over the bar and jumped in delight. He played his 299 game for Tigers today.

Yeh I watched it. Manky drop goal, but what was really interesting is that Flood didn't really exert confidence in the situation. A top OH would have taken the drop a lot earlier than him and Leicester had to wait till they handed it to him on a plate before he went for it, and even then he bottled. Good captaining from Murphy though, took the responsibility.

It was a great kick from Murphy as he kept it low. If he went high it would have been blocked down by the 3 or was it 4 Saracens players going for the block.

I was amazed that him or Flood didn't stand deeper though. They were both right in front of the posts but maybe 10/11 meters back from the ruck.

Initially, I thought he was being a decoy for Flood and that would make it harder to be charged down but no, he called and converted it, fair play.

Yes, they should have gone for a DG earlier, there were moving forward but there was a risk of a knockon or an overturn and the ref had penalised both sides for holding on in the tackle during the game so they really played with fire for a while.

Ah now, it was an absolutely rubbish kick. He didnt even drop rhe ball the right way up ffs! It went low and went through a tiny gap between 3 players. Miracle it wasn't blocked down.

He stepped up though, flood chickened out of having a go when he had the chance and then started pointing an Murphy to take it from then on.

You think? To me it looked like he kept it low on purpose. If he had hit it high it would have been blocked down. As he was standing so close to the ruck there was only one spot he could have put it for it to go over and he put it there.

I can't believe he went low to go through the gap between 3 onrushing players. The still above shows he dropped the ball incorrectly in a rush and just lucked out imo. Sky had one replay earlier that showed how lucky it was to creep between the sarries.

The suprising thing was Flood chickening out.
You can see now why he isnt being picked for England.

Its a pity because he has more of an all round game then Hodgson or Farrell (who'll end up at 10 for England soon). Guess its all for naught if you haven't got the stones!

Well, he was injured. And Hodgson doesn't exactly have balls of steel either.

I'd agree there, bit of a Stephen Jones/Brock James/David Skrela about him.

Murphy is what he is faults & all but he was the Man today, great balls :D

Murphy is a model professional...always has been. Just gets on with the game, no airs or graces. Been dropped from the Ireland squad on several times but never moans about it and always willing to go back in when called.

    Delighted for him today.

couldnt say it better. He has basically retired from international level but when asked by Kidney would he step in if needed he was more than happy too.
I always thought he was overlooked as a player, some say he never brought his club game to international level, but I always thought he was reliable at FB........... except for that tackle vs France in Croke Park

A few years ago Leicester played Munster in a pre season friendly in Musgrave park. It was a nothing game a nice run around in the late summer sunshine. Towards the end of the match Geordan Murphy got injured nothing too serious but hurt his leg and was limping heavily. As he left the pitch the final whstle blew, queue half the young fellows in Cork running on to the field by the time Murphy got to the Sundays Well pavilion the kids were next to him looking for autographs. It would have been easy to sign one or two make your excuses about your leg and feck off to the showers. But he stood there on a leg and a half and signed and had pictures take with all and sundry. He must have been there a good half an hour. He came across as one of the nicest professional sports people you could meet and he certainly made a few kids very happy that night a true gent

Murphy is playing his 300th game for the Tigers this weekend. Incredible.
