How to look older?

I don't know if this was discussed before so I'm gonna start the thread anyway.. I'm 21 years old but almost everybody I come across is shocked by it - apparently I look like a 16 years old. I'm petite, I wear casual and weird stuff and heels always make me feel out of place. I've tried going for a more elegant style but it all seems very boring in the end and I really cannot differentiate what exactly makes you look more mature? Till now I didn't have a problem with it, but I have to start looking for a job and it's becoming an impediment.

I used to have this problem, but unfortunately not any more!
I know how it feels being unable to buy cigarettes or alcohol without ID- it's mortifying.
Unfortunately I think it's very hard to look older and I can't help much with that, however some things that I think make you look younger are:
    - wearing ridiculously high heels
    - wearing too much make up
    - having overly made up hair.

I think all of these things make you look like a little girl dressing up in her Mammy's clothes.

I would also avoid hairbands etc.. as they make you look younger.

One big thing that can really make people look older, or younger, is hair style. Getting a new do could make the world of difference on making you look your age - have a look online and bring in pictures to the hairdresser that you think would suit you. The hairdresser should be able to give you advice on whether a style would suit you and could adjust any ideas you have to be better for you.

I second the above on hairstyle. Even a change of hair colour, or getting a few highlights can make a big difference!

Also, I think if you properly accessorize an outfit it can make you look more "put together" and sophisticated often regardless of what you're actually wearing. If you're going for job interviews make sure you have a well fitting suit and stand tall!

Finally (getting away from fashion here :p ) confidence and the way you express yourself has a big part to play in how old you appear!
