I was just trying to decide which of these 3 things plays the biggest role and which is the downfall in getting the degree you want?

    1.Continous assessment(Assignments etc)
    2.Exams
    3.Attendance at lectures and Tutorials

obviously a mix of all three but attendance is fairly important. if you are consistent and don't miss many tutorials you are better of. if you are balancing between a 2.2 and 2.1 for example they will look at previous marks and attendance to see if you worked consistently and turned up to tutorials. if you did then you have a good chance of getting the higher of the two.

secondly (depending on the course obviously) would be continuous assessment. that usually has a high percentage going for it and you can generally do better in them marks wise compared to exams.

but that's just my opinion :)

I'm curious as to which course you're doing, musical.x, where you seem to be suggesting that exams are less important than attendance and continuous assessment

I think she was referring to the fact that if you attend lectures and tutorials regularly you will be better prepared for the exam, most tutorials in my course-Commerce and Accountancy-focus on past exam questions.

By attending tutorials and lectures even with the same amount of study before the exam you'll have a better grasp on the topic.

Eh? Is that not pretty obvious?

I realise the OP's question was poorly phrased, whatever they meant, but surely for most subjects what makes the most difference in whether you get a 2.2 or a 2.1 is how you do in the exam?
It's all well and good attending all classes and acing your assignments, but more often than not - if you fail your exam, you fail...

I know that in multiple modules of my course we have been told that if you are borderline on failing or passing, the lecturer will be nicer to you in the exam if you have attended the majority of lectures. As regards CA and Exams breakdown, generally a lecturer will tell you at the start of the year the way the marks are spread out. After that, I think it's really up to you to put the effort in to study and attend lectures and tutorials if possible. In any module I've ever taken in NUIG, exams are worth by far the most, with CA's generally worth anywhere between 10% and 30%, so I would think that the exam itself is the most important part, but that doesnt mean you should neglect lectures or CA's.
