Morning all, Nothing like a quiet early shift to do some watch research :D

Mrs S has kindly agreed to get me a Suunto Core for my upcoming birthday. I have wanted one of these since they were released and the Vector before that but never got around to getting one. I will use this almost always in the mountains as I'm a mountain man at heart ;)

I am decided on the "all black" core and have found it for €225 delivered from facewest.co.uk
    http://www.facewest.co.uk/Suunto-Core-All-Black.html

Just wondering if anyone has seen it cheaper?

Don't know if facewest.co.uk are an authorised dealer, so if the watch will develop a problem, you won't be covered. Amazon.co.uk have it as well, a bit dearer, not an authorised dealer, but very easy to deal with.

I took a gamble almost two years ago and bought a Core Alu from ebay as the price was too good to miss and am very happy with it. Actually I'm wearing it as type ;). Be careful about the negative display as it's more difficult to read compared to the positive one. I work nights and don't remember the last time I had to use the backlight. The 45 degree shop in Blanch (don't know if I have the name correctly) have the watches in stock, so you'll be better having a look at the -ve display and make sure you're happy with it before purchasing.

Thanks for that. I've done my research and tried it on in 53 degrees north already ;) I like the negative display as the feature is there to protect night vision which is good for me when out on the hills at night.

I have bought from facewest before and they are well respected in the outdoor community so I'm not worried if I had any issues with the watch.

I was only a few degrees off the mark

If you're happy with the watch, then go for it as that price can't be beaten, at least not for a new watch. When you get it, don't forget to post some pics. Until then, I'll let mine keep you company:

My Core developed a screen fault whereby it is jumbled and garbled after a battery replacement. I tried a fresh battery and still no joy.

I registered the watch and have arranged for a service with Suunto. Excellent system in place by them to have the watch collected by DHL and shipped to Finland for repair. It's all done online and you print all your shipping/airway bill info for DHL from the Suunto website.

I did it all this morning and am now waiting for DHL to pick up. I'll keep you posted as to how this goes for those with interest

Received this from Suunto today. Bit slow in responding and I received the original shipping email 4 times again today? So far I'm unimpressed.

    Suunto's response

    D0EB32BDDE8D48F98256F4F42D08E31F-0000345144-0003151550-00800L-E8729951E4F84EC3AA3BA798DE644644.bmp

And my response to that was that I am a watch enthusiast and have never been in the practice of forcibly changing a battery

I suggested they come back to me with a better suggestion/solution!

Excellent customer service from Suunto in the end, all be it after a email altercation or two.

The watch turned up yesterday without warning. Suunto had completely replaced the watch with a new one only leaving my old strap on it. I am delighted sitting here at 74 metres above sea level :D

    Well done Suunto, case closed!
