What a wonderful coup for Co. Clare to has the Chinese VP spend 2 days here in the County. I presume he and the entourage are staying in Dromoland Castle? It was great for Bunratty, the Farm in Sixmilebridge and the Cliffs to receive all this good press. Hopefully it pays dividends.

I hope that Eamon Gilmore discusses human right issues with the Vice President during his visit. It is a great opportunity for us to promote tourism and industry too, hopefully, the visit will be positive for our county and country.

Great for Clare but I hope as the other poster said human rights are brought up.

Lets not forget the fact that we ourselves were in a similar position to the Tibetans not that long ago,one mans Britain is another mans China!!!How many people went along to meet the Dalai Lama last year and felt disgusted when they heard about the way the Chinese treated his people, the money might be nice, but not if it drips with blood!!!

But surely if China's long-standing and ongoing abysmal human rights record bothered us we would not have been rolling out the red carpet? At this point, we would sell our soul to the devil openly and with the tiniest whisper about human rights and that would be perfectly fine with the vast majority in the country and the government knows that well.

China's human rights record is no worse than the shower we currently are leasing Shannon airport to so they can rendition people into secret prisons around the world to be tortured.

Our government has no morals. This has been obvious for sometime now. The all mighty dollar/yuan is the only they they pray to these days, and the only thing they care about.

The Holy trinity has been replaced with the troika

In the name of the EU, IMF, and ECB. Amen.

    Snip.

To be honest hes got a point. The US has done plenty of questionable things over the last decade or so yet we naver raised issues of guantanamo/torture/execution ect when obama visited. We are guilty of being hippocrates if nothing more. Tbh I dont think China gives a flying fcuk what we say anyway, Id rather they focused on getting some Chinese investment over here.

He doesn't have a point when he makes the hysterical and over the top point of equating the US human rights record with China. It is so ludicrous as to be beyond parody of loony leftism.

Reminder everyone that this is the CLARE forum, if you wish to discuss political issues please find a suitable forum, I don't want to have to moderate users debating different countries human rights histories, thanks.

Yea not equal but my point stands, you cant ignore US human rights abuses and condem China even if they are on a different scale.torture is torture weather its a several hundred or several thousand. Point also has to be made that Chinas is improving its human rights record, we should be encouraging them to continue to do so and nothing more.

Anyways id love to see how that farm visit went down in sixmile bridge. Visiting farms seems to be a big thing with communist leaders

I met a few of them in the Clare Inn on Friday night. Great to meet them, it can only be good for the county.

Bought? All they need to do is provide a tent at the Galway Races and our government will turn over whatever they ask for. Thats what Shell did to get 30 billion in our natural resources.

Don't laugh, our government just passed it's own version of SOPA and signed ACTA, meaning we soon will have our own 'Great Firewall' in which our government will be using to block websites it deems inappropriate for whatever reason.
