Laptop stuck on startup repair

I bought an MSI cx640 Laptop in december. About two weeks ago the laptop started taking a while to boot. when I turned the laptop on, it stayed on a black screen for a few minutes. Then the windows logo appeared and remained there for a couple of minutes. However, once it reached the password screen there was no problems and worked perfectly. I ran diagnostics and memory manager and did all updates but this did not resolve the issue. so i decided to use the time stamp function to reset the laptop to an earlier date. i have used this before sucsessfully. however, once the laptop restarted after being reset it went to the startup repair screen and it has been stuck there since. Any help is appreciated

    Specifications
    Intel Core i5
    Windows 7 home premium
    4gb RAM
    Chipset-Intel HM65

Sounds like a dodgey hard drive to be honest.

Have you tried booting it into safe mode to see if it loads there? If its continuously going into start-up repair its a sign that some system files are corrupted and needs to be fixed.

Highly unlikely but if you happen to have a windows installation disk pop it in when if you manage to enter safe mode (by pressing f8) and choose *Repair your Computer*

But before you do that you could try to check the hardware (RAM, Hard Drive) to make sure it hasn't come loose.

I managed to reboot the system to its original state. All of the problems appear to be fixed now. Thanks for the help.
