How much have you paid for a timing belt change?

I'm getting my van a good service and timing belt change along with a pedal box fitted and power steering belt all for 400 euro, I'm helping out with all the work. The maechanic doing it wont do a timing belt change without out doing all the belts and water pump.

So I went to a main dealer for a price as well for the craic they said 1270 excluding vat will do it and thats giving me a deal, they made up new problems as well saying I need a whole new power staying pump, battery and the list goes on....

Why would people go to dealers at any more?

How did they make out you needed a new battery when you asked for a belt change..

What sort of a van is it??

I assume your mechanic is charging VAT etc

00 sdi caddy, they were saying theres not enough power in it and it will wear the starter over time even tho its an exide battery in it not even in it 8 months

Well an extra 60 on top of the 400 for VAT

I would hazard a guess of 400 quid to change that allthough Nissan Doc or George will confirm that.

Once the battery is starting the van easily you should be ok. Does the battery ever boil after a long drive??

Hes a very good friend to the family for years so hes not charging much for the labour most of the price is for parts.

The battery is 100%, to be honest I never checked if it was boiling over, but I do check the vans oils, coolent and so on including battery acid every 1000 mile or so and there all good

I doubt many folk with 12 year old SDi vans do tbh :)
The deal you are getting isn't at all comparable to any rate that anyone else would get though for the multiple reasons you have already outlined :)

Guys if the topic concerns the timing belt does not assume a new topic just ask here. Do any of you have a description of the timing belt change Chevrolet Spark? I would ask because I can not find anything about it. Can you give a link.
    Please help.
