Normally it's a faulty switch on the boot door that causes this.
Is the boot door switch working, and is the remote open from the key working?

Are you sure that's a switch for opening the boot door?
Maybe I'm wrong but I recall something that mondeo had a switch which was preventing boot doors from being opened. But I'm not sure if it was mondeo.

I know my mothers Mazda has such a switch
Mondeo one is just for opening the boot though.

yeah the boot opens from the remote and from the boot itself so thats why im guessing maybe its the switch itself?

disconnect the switch on the boot door and see what happens, if the interior switch works, then it's the boot switch that's malfunctioning.

That button is superfluous anyway given that there's a button on the boot door itself.

Ah the button on the boot is too hard for my 9 yr old son to push open so it was handy to just pop the boot from the inside

Unfortunately it doesn't work when the key is in the ignition I think I may just replace the button and be done with it .......hopefully
