I'd wager it's gonna be set around the fall of the USSR. It seems the next logical step for trey arch to go for.

ww2 has been done to death, far too mand cod/moh other fps games around it, it works for zombies though so leave that alone. the series needs a big shakeup but we all know thats unlikely to happen once activision own the franchise

**** it, go into the future. Then no one can complain about realism because no one has a ****ing clue what the future will be

Rumours are that Respawns game will be future based so that'll be interesting if they can get the engine and game mechanics right !

    CoD - WW2
    CoD 2 - WW2
    CoD 3 - WW2
CoD 4 - present to near future
    Chernobyl apart
    CoD WaW - WW2
Modern Warfare 2 - present to near future
CoD Black Ops - WW2 to Cold War
Modern Warfare 3 - present to near future

That's without including titles such as Big Red One, Roads to Victory, United Offensive and Finest Hour which were all WW2 releases.

There isn't a dearth in WW2 games in the franchise OP; it's the opposite, there are FAR too many. Play through a few of them and its the WW2 setting that gets repetitive and you'll yearn for a break.

How many of them has the average CoD junkie played tho !?!?! I'd put money on most people on this forum having only started playing from CoD4 or later.

I understand why many of the more old school PC gamers feel WW2 shooters have been done to death online but the majority... nah. Personally i've no real preference, as long as you can shoot **** and the game mechanics aren't broken then i'll give it a bash.

Well there is always completely retro - WWI.
Say around 1918, there would be tanks, machine guns, aeroplanes.
It would a global conflict, thus could be based in the Ottoman empire, Revolutionary Russia, Western front as the major offensives were taking place.
All in all, a fairly interesting period for a CoD game.

I for damn sure hope it ever doesn't go back to WWII era likewise with the space futuristic Halo crap setting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,732 ✭✭✭Magill

You can rule out CoD ever going down the halo route because frankly.. activision are too greedy, something like that would be far too risky... likewise with WW2/WW1... w@w didn't sell nearly as well as BLOPS/MW (Im guessing half the sales ?). One of the reasons Zampella/West split was due to the lack of freedom they had on the development side of things i beleive.

Im afraid its gonna be the same weapons + map design for a while yet. The actual SP campaign i couldn't give a crap about anyway because they're awful imo.
