At present I am not in a position to afford an interior designer for my house but I would love to start adding pieces to it myself even though I feel I am not great at interior design... I love the way some people can just transfrom a room on their own.

My house is a country type cottage/dormer which has a small section of the front of the house faced with stone. I feel though it is so plain inside and I could really add to it by some finishing touches....

I'm wondering if I could pick some brains here or if not could someone direct me of a good place to go for advise or even a good retailer or places I could see similar type proprities i.e. like a showroom

    1. Outside front door, neat lamps or lanterns to hang, one to each side of door

    2. Garden tall lamps with a couple of lanterns from it. Was thinking of putting at top of our drive as you reach the house. Maybe just one central one....

    3. Old radio appearance for kitchen but with modern features e.g. CD player

    4. Strong country rocking chair or armchair for a childs room

    5. Indoor lampshades for all different rooms in house

    6. Old fashioned frames divided into 3 to put maybe 3 biggest photo's of parent's wedding day and then our own.....where could i view good selection frames

    8. OTHER accessories to compliment a country/farmhouse feel house both inside or outside in the garden. Would welcome some ideas.

I know places like Avoca etc do nice accessories but I have no ideas of other shops like it that also would have a good selection of country furniture and accessories.....

Would really appreciate if anyone could help in directing me on some of these items or even where to go looking and browsing for some items.

I don't mind paying for quality but would love to get a start on some items...

    Sorry for ranting on... Thanks

Try TK Maxx for all of the above. It's a real treasure trove. Also, keep an eye out in local second hand or charity shops. Where are you based?

If I were you I'd start keeping an eye on any auction houses in your locality. Stuff can go for an absolute song and there are amazing bargains to be had. And I mean amazing. What part of the country are you in ?

Hi Sparky100, I don't know of any showrooms, but I recommend reviewing the Ideabooks on Houzz.com, this one has lots of pics of rustic interior accessories for example. I've also written a blog post late last year on adding French rustic chic to your home, you can find it here. Lastly a search on pinterest.com also generated lots of ideas... great for browsing but be careful as I find it seriously addictive! :)

Ikea in Balymun sell lots of country cottage/farmhouse style products.

Everything from full kitchnes to bedroom wardrobes to lamps and lamp shades and outdoor lanterns.

And all at a rather reasonable price too.:)
