Samsung Galaxy Europa Problem

Folks, I have a Samsung Galaxy Europa which came with Froyo 2.2. On Tuesday last I upgraded to Gingerbread 2.3.7 as per here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416190. All went swimmingly for two days until Thursday evening when I booted up the phone(I use it as a back up). The phone booted up, but did not ask for a sim unlock pin. Just continued to boot up and then no service. I rebooted several times, took out & reinserted battery, all to no avail. It would not lock on to the network. Tried a different sim to no avail. In the end I ran Rom Manager and had a look at the roms I could download. Saw that the Madteam 2.5 version was now stable and proceeded to install it. Phone booted up as follows:Samsung www.samsungmobiles.com., then GT-i5500, Samsung and finally Samsung. It should then jump on to dialpad to enter sim unlock code. However, it is stuck on the Samsung loop & will not fully boot.Vibrates every minute, approx. I tried to get it to Download mode via Volume-, OK & Power On buttons, to no avail. When I booted via volume- & power button last night, I got a message saying " armv 6 download" or similar. I then connected it up to Odin as per the link above. Odin detected the phone and proceeded through items 1-8, but got stuck at that stage & did'nt get any further. This morning, I cannot get it into Download mode no matter what combination of buttons I use:(

    Any help appreciated.

Edit: Finally got it into Download mode. Hooked it up to Odin. That detects the device & goes through steps 1-8 with no problems. Next I get a message "Cannot open usb serial port. Code 2" This comes up even if I try to use different ports:confused:
