    Guys,

Question about the OH's car, it's a citroen C5 which I use (ironically for fuel economy) when I have to go on a long trip due to work.

In Nov. over three days of commuting to Belfast and back, I spent 90e on fuel, two weeks ago it cost 130e for the same three days, I know fuel has done up, but it's not gone up that much

I used it the past two days to drive into work and on average it's returning 20mpg in city driving which is low for the car, it used be closer to 28-30 mpg for city driving and 36-38 on the motorway.

Now the car is due a decent service, but are there any things that would lead to such a drop?

    Thanks :)

I would start with a full service.
    e.g.
    Oil & Filter.
    Correct/recommended plugs fitted.
    Air filter.
Also check to see if one or more of the brake calipiers are sticking..?
and also if the tyre pressure o.k. all round...?

That's in the plans, it's about 12k miles since the last so hopefully that's it.

He checks the tyres, oil etc every week.

Driving it yesterday and today I thought it was slow to adapt to gear changes, sounded "sticky" so am going to ask the mechanic to check the gearbox oil

    Thank you!

cheapest I got fuel in November was €1.449/litre, it's gone up €0.10/€0.15 per litre since so significant enough but no where near enough to justify your increased figures as you mention.

Just for the crack and this is crude enough as I don't know what price fuel is up your way but €90 would have got me 62.11 litres in Nov, that would cost me €96 now at an extra €0.10/litre or €99 at an extra €0.15/litre :)

Are you sure the distance covered was much of a muchness, that's a really drastic increase in consumption....

Yep, I was driving from home to our Belfast office and back each day both times, so exact same trip, add on 20 miles the last trip when I managed to get lost  If anyone needs a satnav it's me lol

Prices my way would have been about 1.44 last Nov, and are now 1.59 so no way is the price difference the reason for the jump.

Talked to my mechanic about it today and he agreed there is definitely something up. The car hasn't had a service for about 18 months so we are starting with that.
