Converting Saloons to Commercials?

Random enough topic, I know. Has anybody converted a saloon to a commercial for tax purposes?

There's so many good deals out there on S-Class/ A8/ 7-series/ etc. that aren't feasible due to the tax that you'd have to pay. All of the above would definitely have enough volume in the back to be considered commercial if the seats were removed and you don't have to even have the windows tinted or changed. It seems as if you'd just have to get the seats removed and perhaps carpet over the whole rear area? Even if anybody has had experience converting a jeep - was it expensive?

I am almost sure I saw a converted S-Class for sale on carzone a few years ago. Would be great to pic up an S500 or something ridiculous and pay less than 300 tax on it, if you have a company that is.

Also, does anybody think that big GT's like Mercedes CL or BMW 6-series would have enough volume to be considered a commercial if you removed all the seats, etc. in the back?

Saloons? No. As you don't have full access to the load area.

However, this RS6 when modified should........

Yes I have seen some A6's before. So it's completely impossible unless its in a jeep, hatchback or estate?

    Yes.

The other option is to set up a small chauffeuring company, tax is a flat rate of €80odd a year with no modifying

Interesting! However, I assume that there could be a big difference in the insurance for the vehicle if it was supposedly being used for chauffeuring? I guess it would be similar to a taxi situation, and I have a feeling they pay quite a lot more than regular vehicles- although I may be mistaken.

I read on another forum that some lad successfully converted a 350z to a commercial for tax reasons. I'll have a quick google...

Several 3000gt's and 300zx's have been converted to commercials. I heard of someone commercialising an ae86. There was a commercial rs4 for sale not too long ago

You will need a psv licence and get a chaffuer licence which costs 1k plus nct it every year. You must keep books then of some sort to prove you are trading along with the proper insurance..

I saw a nice BMW touring registered as a hearse on donedeal a while back, thats less than 100 euro tax i think. Loopholes are still out there but they are tightening up now.

They're a nice car, but I think the tax put everyone off them! They should have put them all on the road as 2 seater commercials, ha. Put up the link if you find it please

Do you need to show a PSV licence to tax a hearse, and do you need one to drive a hearse in the first place. No good to anyone if they can't be taxed i suppose

I'm nearly sure in the ad he said the tax classification would have to be changed to private unless it was going to another undertaker...

A 2 seater coupe count by that merit?

Interesting stuff, the Z4M would be another really good one! I can imagine the Z4M and 350Z working considering they're hatchbacks. Not sure about their capacity though

No. There is a rule that the load area must be 50%-75% of the wheelbase. I don't know the exact rule
