I have taken out a Short Loan Book (aka it can't be renewed) but I am considering holding onto it for a few days longer (it will be gone for god knows how long the second I return it).

I'm just wondering is it still just a 50c a day fine for short loan books? And can I still enter and leave the library with the book when it is overdue or will the alarm thingy go off :pac:

Hi could someone answer this question for me. I am after taking a book away from desk reserve. I wont be able to bring it back before 10 tonight. Does anyone know how much I will be charged in the morning if I get it in by 8??? Would appreciate your help.

Is it that the same as open reserve?

Short loan is 7 days only and cannot be renewed. I presume desk reserve is the same as open reserve

Fines are 50¢ per day per book. Open Reserve is €1 per hour, I hope you didn't take the Open Reserve book out of the Library. If you are caught doing that they will throw the book at you, not literally. You could be facing fines of up to €90 for that offence . They take it very seriously.

I took out an open reserve book overnight and got charged three euro only.

I think this is real shítty. Feel that the books on open reserve should be given the chance to be accessed for everyone.

Same with people who intentionally take multiple books out when they don't need them, rip pages or hide them in a different section, just so others won't benefit while they do.

I actually took it away with me by accident when the library closed and I had it returned by 9 the next morning so the only time anyone could have got it was between half 8 and 9. If you take out a normal book for a day the fine is 50 cent. what is it for 2 days.

Open reserve books are open reserve for a reason!

what do you mean they are open reserve for a reason?

Open Reserve books are generally essential to course and the library does not have many of them. Due to the high demand, the library has designated these books to be only taken out for four hours at a time, hence the high penalties being charged per hour instead of per day. People taking them out for longer than required make sure that other students who need the book aren't able to use it. The system is good and there for a reason - if you need a particular section so badly, photocopy.

Or do what I do, just return it, and then take it out again.
