Bike security at suburban train stations

I wouldn't leave that bike anywhere let alone a railway station.

I was in Leixlip Conefrey last week and noticed they had "lockers" for bikes.

Depending on the facilities it's probably not a bad idea or a terrible one.

I certainly wouldn't leave locked to a bike rack where anyone could have access to it!

If your bike is of anyway decent quality or would fetch a decent price there is not a chance I would leave it locked up unattended for an entire working day over a period of time.

It may last a couple of months but you are asking for heartache at some point. The fact you asked the question means you are concerned and the bike means something to you.

If you are planning to leave a bike locked up and unattended over a prolonged period of time I would ask yourself the question "what if it was nicked"? Would it break your heart or would you shrug it off.
The more attractive/valuable the less chance it will be there when you get off the train.

I cycle to and from the train station each day. Many people have had their bikes stolen, some people have even had theirs taken twice.

As said if it's a nice bike, you're best of with a clunker or something very subtle.

I've seen these about the dart stops and howth junction and booterstown, I saw locks on the sheds, I don't understand how you get your bike in? Do you ask/pay the station attendant?

The bike is a Colnago similar to the below. Would this be madness?
    Utter madness!

With a nice bike like that would you not be tempted to forget about the train and cycle all the way? :)

Do yourself a favour and buy a cheap bike, you know that one will get nicked by some scumbag within a week and sold for €50.

I just end up bringing the bike with me on the train. It's free after 10am on a weekday so that suits me most days. I wouldn't trust my bike staying in any station short of it being in one of those bike lockers.

How do those bike lockers work at a station? As a cyclist who do you pay and how much?
