Heard a relatively new presenter stand in for Shay Byrne on Risin' Time this week. His name is Neil Doherty.

I think he did a really good job for a newcomer. Hopefully we'll hear more from him - I think he works as a reporter on other shows.

He is certainly more listenable than either Ronan Collins or Marty Whelan.

Despite having over 60 years of experience between them on the national radio airwaves I cannot bear to listen to either of them!!!

Yep, have heard him - seems to be fairly good - just gets on with it and no sh1teing around.

Unfortunately though he's only on for this week while the insufferable Shay Byrne is away.

I've heard this Neil Doherty on RTE1 a few times, filling in various slots. Light and a bit fluffy but sort of OK. That was up to last Saturday when I had the misfortune to be obliged to hear him co-presenting a show on the upcoming Eurovision.

He does this little coy laugh thing which is OK when used sparingly. But he was at it continuously the other night and it just comes across as very tricksy and downright annoying after a while. Giggling away like a giddy teenage girl he was. Jaysus, spare us that sh*te.
