I'm assuming your buddy is after a rotten one that is going for small money, Is it for an engine conversion, if it is, it sounds very interesting :D

I actually saw a 560 SEL along those lines on donedeal.ie a few months back, its seems to be gone now though, and there is actually only one 560 on it at the moment.

Put up an ad on donedeal looking for one would be the best advice in my opinion, you would be surprised what people might have, but have never considered selling

If your after a better one, I know a guy that has two of them, both an SEL and an SEC, both of which would be for sale, they are minters though  (and still worth very little in this country)

If he just needs it for parts he could get one in the North or UK, and just chance bringing it in without paying VRT. If he has a garage etc to park it it might be the best way.

What kind of money are these making these days?

Here in Ireland, they ain't making much. They are in the highest tax bracket and have massive fuel consumption being a 5.6 V8. Plus their year is in that limbo bracket now, to old to be a modern car, to new to be real classics, and they aren't ideal everyday drivers either.

The S class, especially the 560 top of the range ones, are an extremely well built car, very reliable, and great levels of spec and comfort even today.

They are still popular over in england, and demand for SECs is actually increasing over there, mint ones are being offered for around 10K

One of the two I mentioned in the above post, will be swimming back home to england in the next month or so, prob the SEC
