    Hi guys,

So gonna get this router soon..

    http://www.pcworld.ie/Product/NETGEAR-N150-DGN1000-Wireless-ADSL-Router/298272/148.5

Few questions, how to I set it up to work with eircom, is it just as easy as unhooking the cables from the old one and hooking them to the new one and installing it or is it more complicated?

Also will this router work with xbox live?

With any new router/modem you need to set it up for your particular isp - this is what you will need for Eircom:
    Basic Modem Config:
    Username: eircom@eircom.net
    Password: broadband1
    Encapsulation: PPPoE
    Multiplexing: LLC Based
    VPI: 8
    VCI: 35

Usually you will need to access it by ethernet cable in netgear's case it is usually:

    http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1

You will also need to set up your wireless network.

If you give it the same name and password that you currently use then that should make for easy continuity.

So what you're saying is that I'll have to keep my old router anyway as this one has to be connected to it?

No not at all - what made you think that?

Got it set up, very simple. Went with the Netgear N300. So far so good, hitting 15-15.5 mb, with the old silver eircom router I only got 13.8 mb and the black eircom router only gave me 10mb, now once it doesn't disconnect like the old silver one I'll be delighted!

Is this the one you got:-
    http://www.pcworld.ie/Product/NETGEAR-DGND3300-N300-Wireless-Modem-Router/299892/148.5

I ask because I've just bought the same one but haven't opened it yet as I've read about problems on the Netgear boards! See here:-

Not sure now whether to go ahead with the DGND3300 or change for something else? Any help appreciated!

No I went with the one that was 10 euro cheaper, so far it's good. Seems stable enough and has boosted my speed by 2 mb per second. A lot better than the black router eircom provide, I must admit I did like the old silver netopia one but I've had that over 5 years and it kept disconnecting.
