Faulty Booster?

I am getting the UK Freeview channels from Brougher and the Saorview channels from Longford. Until a couple of weeks ago everything was fine but now I am getting freezing and break-ups at times on the Freeview ITV Mux (UHF34) and on the Film4 Mux (UHF33); the other Freeview muxes are fine. When I check the signal quality and signal level on the affected channels I notice that they are down compared to what they used to be before. However, when I switch off the power to the masthead amplifier, the levels on the affected channels come back up again and the pictures are fine - I don't then have the Saorview channels of course.

I am wondering if the amplifier - it is only 10 months old - has started putting out some kind of signal that is causing the degradation of signal quality and signal level on UHF33 and UHF34 and is in need of replacement. Or could there be some other explanation?

Did you not post this same query a few months back?

What's the make & gain figure of the amp? Is it wideband? Presumably a diplexer is used to combine the UK & ROI signals?

Not quite the same, Peter, but that booster was replaced and this query is about the new one, which has worked well and caused no problems until about three weeks ago.

As regards your other questions, all I know is that this booster is supposed to be a screened, high-gain (27dB?) one. The rest I don't know about. Thanks for taking an interest.

Well, since the problem seems to go away when the amp is powered off, it would appear to be causing the trouble; why exactly is another matter. Could be a strong local signal, maybe even Brougher analogue.

How many tvs are served by this aerial setup? There may not be any need for such a high gain amplifier.
