Car Insurance Renewal - New Fire Brigade Clause

Hi everyone, i hope someone can help me.

Not sure if this should be here or in motors, so feel free to move it mods. Thank you :D

I got my renewal this morning and there's a new clause saying that company will not pay any fire brigade costs over €750 for car accident/cutting you out of your car etc.

Should i be worried by this? What are these costs? I'm on a very low fixed income and probably couldn't pay anyway! But, to my thinking, in my 12 year old car and with my third party f&t policy, as a citizen, i am entitled to the emergency services?

So, what does this mean? Is it only to stop fire brigade charging high fees to insurance companies or should i be worried.

    Regards,
    Rose

Not sure what the fees are from the fir brigade but when I was inquiring about my car insurance renewal I was getting quotes with cover for fire brigade fees of 1500-2000 euro. Have you shopped around?

    Thanks for moving it Toots.

Cookie, thank you for replying - i had given up on the insurance forum!

I haven't done anything other than use a 123.ie quote to negotiate my renewal with quinn down to within €15 of last year ;)

I have never seen or heard the fire brigade thing before. Your cover of 1500-2000 is over twice mine so am slightly worried now.

    I think i'll ring a few others.

    Thanks,
    Rose

    Not Your Ornery Onager

Seriously, if you need to be cut out of your car after an accident (that was your fault...), the least of your worries is being chased by the council for the excess over €750.

Don't worry too much about things that will probably never happen.

OP, the way it works is each county and most cities have their own fire service, run by the local county/city council. Each council has it's own rules about charges, some calls are free, some are not.

As said above though, don't be worrying about something that with hopefully never happen.

    Also, shop around for insurance.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

My father was cut out of a car after a drunk uninsured driver drove on the wrong side of the road. So it does happen.

Thank you for the information on counties charging different rates.
    I must look into it.

Surely thats what motor insurance is for....paying costs incurred by having a crash:confused:

The fire brigade are not only called out to cut you from the wreckage of a car accident as far as I know. If you are in an accident and you/or someone else calls an ambulance, I thought it was not uncommon for the fire brigade to arrive also, no? So, in thoery, if of you bump into to someone and they have a 'sore neck' and call for an ambulance, is it not a possibility that a fire engine arrives?

.....I could be totally wrong here though!
