Hey guys anyone using Rapidshare today find it's gone really slow and files are downloading wierd? I think Rapidshare have a new technique where it starts and stops your download, which I have been reading about here (post 14)

Hope it's not permanant, RS has been good for free users for a while there, what do you guys make of this, any paid users on here having any problems?

It could be a Rapidshare glitch possibly? Either way I think your best course of action would be emailing them re: the problems. I couldn't see a filehost intentionally throttling users, as people will loose trust in them hosting their files if they can't download them again fast enough

With most of the other filelockers gone, Rapidshare will have seen a huge increase in load on its servers these past few weeks.

It was inevitable that free users would experience issues. Bandwidth has to be prioritised for paying users. All those server farms and bandwidth don't grow on trees.

I noticed that today too, any download i tried timed out after about 1.5 - 2mbs downloaded

Glad I've seen this thread. I thought I was the only one having problems with it and attributed it to jdownloader.

I will upgrade my account soon and see if it persists. Though fileserve are back again too so I may go with them.

Yeah my roommate had the same problem when he tried to download <SNIP> today. Bandwith problems sounds like the most logical reason, sure beats my theory that rapidshare had just decided to <SNIP>.

Let me remind users that discussion of piracy is not allowed and any mention of downloading copyright material will result in infractions being issued/thread being locked

    Cheers,

I have a rapidpro account and no issues whatsoever, have read on other forum boards that this is the way Rapidshare are doing it now so if you depend on full speed downloads of your stuff then upgrade. 2 year subscription is very reasonable in my opinion.

    Rapidshare have intentionally done this.
Not sure why, but they have changed their free user policies so that your max download speed is 30KB/s. To achieve this rate they basically pause your download for a length of time depending on your connection speed.

Damn still the same today :(
Seems like paid users aren't having this problem either so it's only targeting free users.

RS just went from been one of the best to one of the worst for free users if this persists.

    So, why not pay then?

Maybe because I don't download much?

you can also try sourcing your files from another filesharing service. I never understand why people stick to one religiously: I google what I need, and get it on whatever mirror is available.

Down for me? Is it down for anyone else?

    (Edit: Back up now.....)

I was looking at a service called Real Debrid which is a multi-hoster where you can download from a huge amount of providers as a premium user for only €4 a month.

I chanced it last night and got 20 days for €3 just to see if it works and it turns out it does! Managed to download from RS at full speed with no problems. The only issue is when you get links, you have to "unrestrict" the by placing them into the real debrid site, though there are firefox and chrome add ons that do it automatically which make it easier.

I just got the plug-in for jdownloader for it there so will see how it fares on that, dead handy so far though. Also bear in mind that I'm only on a 2mb connection and got full speed, not sure how good it would be on higher speeds.

IceFilms changed to Rapid when Mega went down. That alone probably warranted the Rapid policy change.

That's exactly what happened to me, a free download would tell me it was running at 360KB/s & had 28 minutes remaining but the download speed would look like it was frozen for a while.
I'd leave it for an hour & it would say 26 minutes remaining, I thought I was going mad.
My old friend Wupload appears to be working fine though for free users.

Just going to have to buy a subscription. I got one and every things working fine. I'm only getting a month at a time though as rapidshare could go under the hammer like megaupload.

Seriously get a real debrid account. €4 a month and you get every major file hoster, been using it the last while and it's fantastic when used with jdownloader.

Didn't feel necessary to create a new thread for my question but can I ask if any RS premium users here are using JDownloader, if so what kind of speeds are they getting?

I'm finding it fluctuates between 200-400kbps is this normal or is it possible to get faster times?

Check JDs settings for max connections and similtanious downloads, turn up the max connections and similtanious dls to 4/5 and see if it improves. It could be the Rapidshare servers are also under pressure hence the slower speed.

Was thinking that it might be due to strain but at the same time I had the previous speeds I mentioned for two files downloading.

I decided to up it to 7 files simultaneously downloading and now the speed is roughly 40kbps per link which is bit nuts I think

    are you a premium user?

Free users get throttled after the first 3Mb of data. I have used it as a premium user in the past and with jdownloader and I always maxed out my connection which was 13Meg at the time. I no longer have that account so can't check for you.

Yeah premium user, the links sped up shortly after i posted last night to 120kbps or so but i have a 6mb download line was assuming that strain on RS Servers might be the cause or jdownloader being limited or something
