Rental bike replacement after an accident

It took only 4 months but I had my first accident. As I was leaving a roundabout (turning right) a car going straight didn't see me and managed to hit the back of my bike. Thankfully my injuries don't seem too bad (I've been examined and xrayed) but I'm guessing my bike will be a write off (uneconomical to repair)

I don't want to be without a bike indefinitely so I was thinking about getting a rental in the meantime. Only problem is that the other drivers insurance company has not admitted liability and has told me outright it will be at least 2-3 weeks before then even consider it. Seems fairly open and shut but if they argue it could leave me with a serious bill.

Has anyone got any experience with something similar happening? I've booked an appointment to see a solicitor but the earliest I could get was one day next week.

The only rental place I'm aware of so far is Celtic Rider.

I'm not aware of anyone who'd rent a bike, other than Celtic - so you're on your own.

But don't take it lying down - make them pay for a rental car, instead. Or a ****-load of taxi's.........

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

A quick Google turned up a load of rental places. When did they all come about?

How long have you had your licence? As most places require you to have it for more than 2 years.

I tried a google but they mostly seemed to be aimed at people on holiday. Celtic was the only site that that mentioned anything about rentals after an accident. I gave them a call yesterday and they were extremely helpful.

I'm still on a restricted full license but they've got a restricted bike too.

    Thanks for the replies chaps.

Its a tough situation to be in. So you need to be tough with them. Bill them for everything and let them know your going to do it. New gear, helmet, replacement bike or taxis. You were hit from behind by a car, doesn't matter if he wont accept liability. A court will always rule in your favor and they know it. If your with Adelaide they include your own insurance assessor with their policy if you were hit by somebody else. Really good to have one of them to in these cases.
