Provisional license about to expire?

I've almost had my first provisional license for two years, and it is set to expire in May. I've just never got around to sitting the test or getting much practice in with college and that.

If it expires do I have to re-sit the theory test? And if so, does this mean that I have to go by the new rules with the 12 EDT lessons before test, etc?

    Thanks

If it expires and then you renew it within 5 years you would not need to sit the theory test again nor would the new rules apply.
