Where can I find Ice Skating lessons for teens ?

My daughter is almost 14 and would like to learn Figure Skating in Dublin or near Dublin , Ireland !! It doesn't have to be now but during the next winter , whenever. Tnx for the help

There is a new ice rink supposed to be opening in Santry (National Ice Sports & Training Arena). Not sure if it's open yet though.
Maybe post over on the hockey forum and see if someone can help.

Hi there!

I was at the new rink in Santry tonight for an information evening. It is due to open on 3rd March. It wont be open to the public initially so you need to be a member of the ISAI, IIHA or ICF in order to use the rink.

Castleknock on Ice is still open and running classes for figure and hockey

I didn't realise there were classes for figure at Castleknock so I did a bit of a google and came across this:

Apparently, Skate Ireland is "Ireland's Skating Association" which I'm sure will be news to the Ice Skating Association of Ireland who are the governing body for the sport in Ireland recognised by the International Skating Union and Olympic Council of Ireland.

The classes can't be accredited by the ISAI either as it says there are Grades/Levels 1-10 whereas the ISAI's Emerald Skate information I have in front of me here says Level 1-8. Or maybe it's a mistake?

Then there's the coach......

Donna Mackey began her figure skating career 27 years ago at the tender age of 6. Her family ran Dublin’s well known ice rink The Silver Skate which set the stage for what was to become a life long devotion to figure skating.
Donna’s dedication to training earned her constant positions on the Irish national team where she excelled nationally and internationally as she represented her club and country. Donna maintained a respected presence on the figure skating competition circuit as she regularly took home numerous trophies, medals and championship titles, Donna was the first Irish skater to compete internationally and the first Irish skater to test under NISA.

I've followed the sport of figure skating closely for the past 20 years, travelled to European and World championships as a spectator and I've never heard of Donna Mackey. Admittedly, I've lived abroad for some of that time, but the figure skating world is so small that I'm sure I'd have heard about an Irish skater competing internationally back then. Plus the fact that you have to be a member of an ISU member federation to compete in ISU events and I'm pretty sure Ireland didn't become a member until very recently.....

I can see she seems to have a great love of skating. However, practicing a sport from a young age does not necessarily qualify someone to be a coach. Does she have NCCP or PSA or some other figure skating coaching credential?

As for being an international competitor, I was wondering which international ISU sanctioned competitions she entered so I can go and check her results.

I think some specific information like above would help potential students such as myself make an informed choice. I'd also suggest putting some contact information on the website and not claiming to be "Ireland's Skating Association" as it is a bit potentially confusing for those unfamiliar
with the sport.
