Anybody know the deal with the Photography Room in the CS Building, is it a darkroom? Is it still in use? Can Students use it?

Ive done a bit of research on the NUIM site, cant seem to find anything about it.

By CS Building I assume you mean the Callan Building, which is shared between Biology and Computer Science.

I don't recall seeing a Photography room in the CS department, so if there is one I guess its part of biology and I think its for research so I doubt its open for everyone to use. (I think they have some stuff that needs to be exposed to UV light to develop and such)

I cant tell you anything about that particular room, but if its a Dark Room your after, the Playdo Society (arts, crafts and photography) have one. Its not currently in use as there are no chemicals and no one that knows how to use them, however if you want to email them at playdo@nuimsu.com I'm sure they'd be happy to work with you on getting it sorted out. There's money set aside for doing it up and getting the necessary equipment but it's just never happened (mainly due to lack of knowledge about dark rooms and the fact that the art and crafts side of the society is more focused on)

I used to handle the darkroom, although I haven't been in for some years. All the gear and supplies should still be there.

I'm not sure - its been 6 years since I was involved (I still have a modest pile of society-funded gear if any current memebers want to pick it up).

Was last in around 2006 I think, should still have the enlarger, developing tanks, grainscope, redlight and a few bottles of developer (which are probably now expired) - enough to process a few rolls of b&w anyway. Few bottles of stop also, which I think has a longer shelf life.

Was the title changed from "dark room" to "photography room" for any particular reason..? Please tell me "dark room" isn't falling foul of PC. :|

They are two different rooms - the photography room in Callan is for project-related imaging by the biology department. The photographic darkroom is in the logic annex on south campus (shed at the back of logic house).
