Official scrappage cert?

Is there such a thing? My mother was in a car accident a few weeks back, nothing too major but almost all of the airbags went off so the insurance company classed it as a write off and want to sell it to a scrap yard at a knock down price. Through contacting a few other car dismantlers we realised that parts like the engine and gearbox of this particular model are 'rarer than hens teeth' and we might be better off to keep the car and break it for parts ourselves.
When we suggested doing this instead, we were told we couldn't as it is a category B vehicle and we would need an official scrappage cert which could only be obtained from selling it to a scrap yard.
Does anyone know what truth there is in this or is the scrap yard in question trying to pull a fast one?

It's called a certificate of destruction.

If you 'keep' the car your mother will remain the registered owner.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

If its a cat B, the insurers are buying the car off you regardless so the current damaged value of the damaged car is nothing to do with you or your mother. They are making an offer which in affect buys the car off you. You either accept that offer or bargain for better price but the car is no longer yours. The insurers can then get the best price possible for themselves or they can throw it away.
If it was cat C or D, you could have the option of retaining ownership and getting a settlement less the salvage value of the car as it currently stands. In that case, you could then have repaired it or dismantled it or sold it etc.
Not with a Cat B though
